BSNL All Set To Launch Their New Website

BSNL the state run conglomerate has been upto something good nowadays it seems. Sources are to be believed that they are rebuilding their portal bsnl.co.in.
They are giving it a swanky new look. For decades we have seen the old fashioned portal full of scribbles running from here and there to banners at odd places. It looks pretty messed up and confusing at times.
News and updates seem to have been jumbled up and tangled with one another. But finally the bell has rang and now they are upto in bringing out an all new version of the portal in a few days.

To match with the trendy and eye catching websites of the private operators BSNL is doing sway with its old website and replacing it with an all flash and animated site. Its sister arm MTNL which operates in the two metros of Mumbai recently overhauled with portal and had given it a new look.
TelecomTalk has learnt that BSNL is now going to give an aggressive campaign through its new site. Many features has been enhanced and surfing has been made more user friendly. Down under we have attached some snapshots of the newly designed site.
Though it is unknown when the site is going to be launched since it is still in its beta version and no official date has been finalised yet we hope to see it in the near future.

Earlier DoT has directed BSNL to set a target of 25% revenue growth for all circles in current financial year. As a result BSNL Corporate Marketing team has now started various reforms including new web site to achieve targets with better product marketing.
We hope BSNL will succeed in its new reformation process and we can also look forward for some aggressive marketing strategy from the state run operator in coming day We wish them all the very best!
Now we ask you do you think BSNL can make a difference by revamping its portal in the long run, What else should BSNL improve do let us know via comments !

Alcohol for Diabetics

Alcohol is everywhere – at family gatherings, at cookouts, after the cricket game, at parties…. "What would you like to have?" someone asks. If you have diabetes, what should you say?

It all depends. Start by asking yourself three basic questions:
  1. Is my diabetes under control?
  2. Does my doctor agree that I am free from health problems that alcohol can make worse - for example, diabetic nerve damage or high blood pressure?

SEVEN TAX-EFFICIENT FINANCIAL SERVICES IN THE POST OFFICE

When was the last time you visited a post office branch? It's been over a decade that the e-mail replaced the written word, so there's no need to buy stamps, envelopes or inland letters. Besides, thousands of private couriers have mushroomed in the past 15-20 years, giving stiff competition to speed post & parcel. But you should because the bouquet of services offered by India Post has some very interesting and cost-effective products. ET Wealth looks at the financial services that can be availed of at a post office branch and how these compare with similar products from other organisations.

The interest your balance earns in a regular savings account with a bank is taxable. But if you open a savings account in a post office, the interest is tax-free. If you maintain an average balance of Rs 50,000 in your bank account, you would earn roughly Rs 2,000 as interest income in a year. In the highest tax bracket, the taxman will shave off 30% (or Rs 600) from this income, leaving you with only Rs 1,400. However, if it is a postal savings bank account, the interest earned is tax-free. There is, of course, a ceiling of Rs 3,500 per account on this exemption in a year. In case of joint accounts, the ceiling is higher at Rs 7,000 a year. But this is a reasonable limit because very few people would keep more than Rs 1 lakh in their savings account.
There are other benefits of opening a postal savings account. You don't have to lock up Rs 5,000-10,000 in maintaining an average quarterly balance. The post office does not mind if you have emptied out your account as long as you leave Rs 500 as balance. This low-ticket convenience works in case of recurring deposits as well. If you open a recurring deposit with a bank, the minimum monthly deposit is Rs 500. In the post office, the monthly contribution can be as low as Rs 10, making it an ideal option to start your child on the savings habit. The 7.5% interest is compounded quarterly and compares well with what banks offer. The only hitch is that the post office deposit is for a minimum of five years. However, you can withdraw 50% of the balance after one year.

Even so, the very mention of the post office conjures images of a stodgy organisation with long queues and obdurate babus filling up pass books manually. That's true to a certain extent, but things are fast changing. India Post is working on a core banking solutions project that will offer state-of-the-art facilities to customers, including ATMs, Net banking, debit cards and e-payment services. AS Prasad, deputy director-general (financial services), told ET Wealth that by the end of the year, account holders will be able to access their accounts at any ATM across the country ( India Post's AS Prasad on how it to transform into a dominant financial services player ).

Life insurance is the lynchpin of a financial plan. The post office offers life insurance, but it is open only to employees of the Central and state governments, public sector undertakings and semi-government organisations. In October 2010, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority allowed the post office to sell insurance policies of private companies. It was a tremendous opportunity for both the insurance industry as well as India Post. The industry suddenly had access to India's largest distribution network of 1.55 lakh offices while India Post could stand to earn good commission from selling insurance policies. However, the proposal has not taken off because the India Post does not want to push policies of other companies and instead wants to focus on its own Postal Life Insurance. The Rural Postal Life Insurance can be bought by any citizen of India provided he is residing in a rural area, which is any location outside the limits of a municipality. India Post has sold 1 crore RPLI policies since they were launched in 1995. But almost 40% of these are micro insurance policies where the life cover is less than Rs 25,000. That's just enough to take care of a middle-class urban family for about a month.

The India Post is also a distributor of the New Pension Scheme. You can open an NPS account at designated post office branches. In fact, with very few agents interested in selling the low-cost scheme because of the niggardly commission it offers, the post office has become the biggest seller of the NPS. It has opened almost 20,000 voluntary accounts till now, which is almost a third of the total voluntary Tier I NPS. The scheme is available at nearly 800 post office branches across the country. Incidentally, the India Post has stopped selling mutual funds after the entry load was removed in August 2009. Says Prasad: "If Sebi brings the upfront selling commission of 2.25% back, we would sign a memorandum of understanding to sell mutual funds again."

Want to invest in gold? The yellow metal is set to soar higher as uncertainty returns to the capital markets and inflation goes through the roof. You can buy 24-carat gold coins at the post office. The coins are available in three sizes: 500 mg, 1.5 g and 8 g. Don't worry about the purity issues. These coins have been imported from Switzerland and have the backing of the World Gold Council. There is no price advantage if you buy from the post office or from a bank or jeweller.
forex cards in seven currencies, demand drafts in 11 currencies and wire transfer in 13 currencies. What's more, you can apply for your passport through the post office.

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya known as JNV are Indian schools for talented children and form a part of the system of gifted education. The objectives of the scheme are to provide good quality modern education to the children predominantly from rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.
They are located all over the country, except Tamil Nadu. There are approximately 593 JNVs across India as of 2010. They offer quality education to all students who get selected through the admission process which includes an All India Entrance Exam, held at district level.

History
First established in 1985 at Amravati, Maharashtra, they are the brain child of P. V. Narasimha Rao.They were started during Prime Ministership of Rajiv Gandhi to find and foster talented children from the rural parts of India. They started with the name Navodaya Vidyalayas and renamed later as Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in the birth-centenary year of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
 Objectives
  • To impart good quality modern education to talented children (selected on the basis of a written merit test) predominantly from rural areas, without regard to their family's socio-economic condition.
  • To ensure that all students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas attain a reasonable level of competence in three languages as envisaged in the Three Language Formula.
  • To serve, in each district, as focal points for improvements in quality of school education in general through sharing of experiences and facilities.
 Regions
Eight Regional Offices are established at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Pune & Shillong with jurisdiction over different States and UTs.
There are total 600 JNVs as on 31 august 2010.
 Admission procedure
Talented students from each district are selected through an All India Level Entrance Exam conducted each year by CBSE and are given admission to 6th standard/class in the JNVs of respective districts. Till 1998, the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. The test is largely non-verbal and objective in nature and is designed to prevent any disadvantage to children from rural areas. Now admissions are also taken in Class IX and XI. During academic year 2008-09 admissions will be allowed in Class VIII. These admissions are conducted through an objective and descriptive test containing questions on English, Mathematics, Science, & Social Sciences. This "Lateral Entry" system is devised to fill the vacancies that arise due to withdrawal of admissions of the children who are admitted in class VI.
ADMISSION TO CLASS IX AGAINST VACANT SEATS
In view of the need for optimum utilization of the infrastructure and facilities available in the Vidyalayas, it has been decided by the Samiti to fill up the vacant seats in IX class through an All India level Selection Test.  The district-wise vacant seats in the Vidyalayas have been separately notified in the local newspapers.
HOW TO APPLY FOR JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA SELECTION TEST FOR ADMISSION IN CLASS IX

Vidyalaya wise vacant seats in class IX have already been notified.  The eligible candidates may apply for their admission to class IX in the prescribed application form, which is attached with this Prospectus, and can be obtained free of cost from the office of the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the concerned district.  The Application Form can also be downloaded from the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti website, http://www. navodaya.nic.in

HOW TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATION FORM

Application Form duly completed in all respect must reach the office of the Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya of the concerned district on or before due date through registered post A/D.  If the candidate prefers to submit Application Form in person, he/she is required to get the acknowledgement receipt from the office of the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.

       RESULT OF SELECTION TEST

Result of the Selection Test will be notified on the Vidyalaya Notice Board as well as published in selected local newspapers. Selected candidates will also be intimated by post.

 Eligibility
Since the Vidyalayas have an objective of providing opportunity and education to the underprivileged children of rural areas, the entrance examination has a list of eligibility criteria. They require the student to be:
  1. a student of V standard by a Government recognised school
  2. in the age group of 9-13
  3. a student of III, IV and V in a Government recognised school in a rural area, to apply for a rural quota.
  4. a first time appearer in the entrance exam
 Fees
Since 2005, a moderate and uniform fee structure is implemented across all JNVs to reduce the dependency on Government. However, girls are exempted from paying any fees. A monthly Rs 200 is collected for Navodaya Nidhi from class 9th onward from boy students. Also, boys from Scheduled Communities(SC), Scheduled Tribes(ST) and Other Backward Communities(OBC), who parents do not fall into creamly layer as specified by the Government are exempted from paying any fees.
 Reservation
Seats are reserved for the children of rural areas. At least 80% of the seats in a district are filled by candidates selected from rural areas and remaining seats are filled from the urban areas of the district.Reservation of seats in favour of children belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes is also provided in proportion to their population in the concerned district. These reservations are interchangeable and over and above the candidates selected under open merit. Efforts are made to ensure that one-third of the total seats are filled up by girls.
These students are given free accommodation, food and clothing and are allowed to continue their studies till class 12. All expenses are borne by the Government of India.
The aim of establishing these institutes was to find and nurture the talented students from rural India could not afford a good education. To ensure this, The ratio of 80% from rural to 20% urban students is maintained by the schools.
 Student life
 Academics
The successive academic results of JNVs in public examinations conducted by CBSE and the records about placement of students after passing out from the Vidyalayas are a clear pointer that the establishment of the Javahar Navodaya Vidyalays is a step in the right direction. The results of class X and XII examinations of the Vidyalayas have been consistently better than the overall CBSE national averages. These results are remarkable and shows the success of the Vidyalays despite the rural background.
 Scouting, Guiding and NCC
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is recognised as a State for Scouting and Guiding activities by the Bharat Scouts and Guides. Navodaya students regularly and actively participate in various programmes of BSG. NCC is being introduced in JNVs in a phased manner. Samiti had a total cadet strength of 9420 during 2003-2004. As part of NCC training, students of the JNVs attended several camps and excelled themselves.
 Games and sports
Games and sports are encouraged in the JNVs to develop fitness, physical and neuro-muscular skills and promote the spirits of co-operation and sportsmanship. Vidyalayas organize National Sports Meets to identify talented children in sports. The meets happen at cluster and regional levels every year where students from different JNVs compete. Students picked at regional level compete at national level. Based on the performance at National level, children get a chance to play on behalf of Navodaya team, which is considered as a State, in Sports and Games Federation of India competitions. Specialised sports like archery, Judo and Gymnastics are encouraged in some of the JNVs. JNV Bangalore Urban of Hyderabad region is one of such schools that has proved excellence in games like archery. There are also various exhibitions where the schools bring models and ideas which are then judged and awarded prizes.
 Migration
One of the important features of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme is a scheme of exchange of students from one Vidyalaya in a particular linguistic region to another in a different linguistic region to promote understanding of the diversity and plurality of India's culture and its people. The Aim of the Migration in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas is focused on National Integration. According to the Scheme, selected 30% of 9th class students are exchanged between JNVs of non-Hindi speaking region and Hindi speaking region, for one year.
 Other courses
In 1999, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and Intel joined hands to conduct a pilot program for few selected schools on integration of technology in teaching and learning process. After the success of pilot project, around 3486 teachers across all the schools of the Samiti were trained during their summer and autumn vacations during the period 2001-2002.
The various initiatives undertaken jointly by Intel and Samiti are:
  • Smart School Project: Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has launched a major initiative called the “Smart Schools Project” with the aim encouraging and promoting technology use in government schools of India.
  • Joint Contest: The duo launched a Joint contest for acknowledging the Best Integration of Technology in Education in 2004.

    • IT Curriculum Review Committee: Intel was invited to take part in curriculum review committee.
recently after the kargil war its become some problamatic to migrate students of Hindi speaking areas to kashmir, like jnv mahoba regulated migration is one sided only i.e. these students are not getting the chance to migrate baramula region.
This year Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti signed an MOU with Bharatiya Jain Sangathan(BJS), a Pune based NGO, for implementation of EDUQIP (Educational Quality Improvement Project). EDUQIP was successfully implemented by BJS in Andaman Nicobar Island Schools. It contains a basket of programs aimed at enhancing the contributions of all the stake holders of the Navodaya Vidyalayas to improve the quaility. These project will be implemented in all the Navodayas during 2007-11. During these three years BJS will establish and operate the program with the help of selected trained teachers of Navodya Vidyalayas and later the project will be handed over to NVS.
